The Speciality Coffee Association

July 15, 2019Customer Service

At Kaldi Gourmet Coffee Roasters, ensuring that our wholesale coffee beans come from a fair and sustainable source is our priority.

That’s why we pride ourselves in our relationships with eco-conscious and environmentally-friendly organizations. Our products are also Rainforest Alliance Certified, Fair Trade Certified, and USDA Organic Certified

In previous posts, we’ve talked about what it means to us to be involved with those different certification programs, along with the Swiss Water Process we use to decaffeinate coffee. But we are also proud to be a member of the Speciality Coffee Association, or SCA. In this post you will learn more about what that membership means to the team at Kaldi and to you as a wholesale consumer.

When it comes to wholesale coffee beans from Kaldi, we roast all of our beans as they are ordered to ensure their freshness and longevity. Choose from our selection of wholesale coffee beans, including our Fair Trade Organic beans

What Is The SCA?

The SCA was founded in 1982 as a non-profit organization committed to improving the coffee industry. Originally the Speciality Coffee Association of America, the American SCA merged with the European SCA, creating the SCA.

Now, the SCA is a worldwide network with members from all facets of the coffee industry. This creates a space for global conversations around the speciality coffee trade and to push for raising industry standards around the world.

As the SCA explains, they are “built on foundations of openness, inclusivity, and the power of shared knowledge. From coffee farmers to baristas and roasters, our membership spans the globe, encompassing every element of the coffee value chain.”

Through this network of industry members, the SCA is able to hold events for members and conduct research on areas of coffee ranging from the scientific principles of coffee to the impact of sustainably sourcing and growing coffee.

Becoming A Member

Anyone involved in the coffee industry is eligible to join the SCA. What makes membership in the SCA so impactful is the community of members that are created through the SCA.

As members of the SCA, we can join into a worldwide conversation, advocating for sustainable and fair trade within the coffee industry. Through this organization, we can network with other suppliers and farmers, as well as raise awareness about different issues that affect the coffee industry. By coming together, we can better address concerns and advocate for industry-wide change.

What That Means For Wholesale Consumers

Being part of the SCA shows our continued commitment to provide the best wholesale coffee beans when it comes to all aspects of sustainable consumption.

Through the SCA and our different certifications, we can show how conscientious we are when supplying wholesale coffee beans to both small business and individual customers.

When you see our SCA logo, you know that we are taking whatever steps we can to change the coffee industry and entering into the global conversation.
