About Cocafelol

The Cooperativa Cafetalera Ecológica La Labor Ocotepeque Limitada (Cocafelol) was founded in 1999 by 20 producers in Octopeque, Honduras, with a vision to transform local coffee culture by producing and commercializing specialty coffee while prioritizing environmentally sustainable practices. By 2011, the cooperative achieved USDA organic, UTZ, and Fairtrade certifications and began exporting their coffee directly.

Cocafelol provides comprehensive support to its 405 members (all Fairtrade certified, with approximately ¼ also organic certified), including about 55 female members. They offer facilities for processing and milling cherry, clean storage for green coffee, training in Best Agricultural Practices, and financial support through loans. Notably, Cocafelol is the first carbon-neutral cooperative in Honduras, thanks to its innovative biogas plant that converts plant waste into biogas and bioethanol.

Cocafelol is also invested in the future, with programs to educate both children and adults in cupping, as well as coffee-themed educational programs for the children of cooperative members to encourage the next generation to continue in coffee production.
