Coffee Prices

Coffee prices have continued to rise in January 2022, raising to 204.29 US cents per lb

The ICO Composite price indicator has shown a continuous month to month increase for 16 months in a row
-
The intra-day volatility of ICO composite price indicator decreased by 1.8 percentage points to 8.3% despite the fact that coffee prices are still increasing
-
In January 2022, the largest increase from December 2021 occurred with Colombian milds and Brazilian natural which averaged 294.93 US cents per pound and 233.80 US cents per pound respectively

This represents a 1.5% increase for both groups
-
Prices for the Other Milds increased by 1.3% to 271.08 US cents/lb in January 2022

Robusta, priced at 109.71 US cents/lb in January 2022, actually decreased by 2.7% compared to the previous month
Coffee Production and Consumption

Total coffee production for 2020/2021 reflects a decreased to 168.88 million bags
-
Total coffee consumption has increased 2% to 167.68 million bags when compared to 2019/2020
-
The production to consumption gap is now just 1.2 million bags
-
Arabica production has increased by 2.2% to 99.26 million bags
-
The production of Robusta beans has decreased to 69.62 million bags from 7.92 bags from last year
-
Global coffee consumption has trended upward from 167.68 million bags in 2020/21 as compared to 164.46 in 2019/20
Exports
-
Exports of all coffees in December 2021 were increased by 8.9% for a total of 12.12 million bags 60-kg bags vs. December 2020
-
This was driven by an increase in Asia and Oceaniania production, up 37.4% at 4 million bags
-
Exports from South America decreased by 19.2% due to Brazil and Colombia
-
Exports from Central America and Mexico increased dominantly due to Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua
-
Exports from Africa increased mostly due to Ethiopia and Uganda
-
Export of Arabicas slightly decreased by 2.8% compared to December of the previous year, while Robustas increased 25.1%
